Wire Form Manufacturing
Tennessee Spring and Metal has been manufacturing reliable steel springs and wire forms for nearly 60 years. We’ve spent some time covering extension, torsion, and compression spring basics in our recent series of posts, and this week we’ll dive into wire forms.
What’s a wire form?
A wire form is pretty cool, if we do say so ourselves. Why? Because all springs are wire forms, but not all wire forms are springs. Basically, a wire form is a solid metal rod with bends along its length. How many, and in what direction they bend, depends on how you’re planning on using the wire form.
Custom wire forms can be used for many different automotive, agricultural, alternative energy, HVAC, and medical purposes. They’re even used in furniture, sporting equipment (think hockey goalie masks), and within the food, beverage, and restaurant industries.
Examples of wire forms
Some common wire forms are, yes, springs. However, other popular types of (and uses for) wire forms include:
Lynch pins
Utility hooks
S hooks
J hooks
R clips
Bobby pins
Wire baskets and shelves
Wire screens
Wire cages and guards
Hose clamps
Here at Tennessee Spring and Metal, we make custom wire forms according to your specifications. We can accommodate specific load requirements and shapes and can finish your wire forms with wide range specialty coatings, finishes, and paints. From fine wire to heavy-duty, we create the perfect wire forms for your products.
A few words about the wire supply and the supply chain
If you’ve read our market updates or follow us on LinkedIn, you’re probably already well aware of the challenges the industry is facing. If you’ve just been thawed from a pre-2020 cryogenic sleep, here’s the Cliff Notes version: Tennessee Spring and Metal, like all spring and wire form manufacturers around the country, has been hit hard by supply chain issues and price increases.
Through it all, we strive to be the most reliable wire form and industrial spring maker in America. Unfortunately, the supply of goods required for wire form and spring manufacturing is in critically short supply and the cost of raw materials is at an unprecedented high. We are working hard to serve our long-standing — and new customers — with honesty, transparency, and integrity.
